I have to post about Abigail tonight. She had her first swim meet (did I mention that she is in PreComp Swimming, the teams that compete before you move into high school swimming teams) Saturday morning and she did really well, placing 2nd for her age group. The ribbon isn't what i am proud of though, it's her willingness to try. She worked hard all summer to meet the bare minimum to make the team and I knew she was nervous but she jumped in and did her best. This has shown in other parts of her life also. She is in a musical at school. She decided to try out for a solo (keep in mind she has no training, just the love of singing). She had to sing her piece in front of about 50 people and she was 1st on the list. But she did it. The same musical had auditions for dance numbers and she decided to also try out for this with a friend. Keep in mind that there was an obvious division between those that are taking dance and those who have not. Abigail falls into the latter catagory as her dance lessons have been limited to age 3-4 rec center ballet. But she made something up with her friend and tried out. I know some up it is age and the self confidence that comes with youth. Today for example we were watching a DVD it there was a dancing with jump ropes and she "I can do that". I am just hopeful that as she gets older she doesn't loose the confidence in herself and what she is capable of accomplishing.
